Hi everyone! Just wanted to post a couple of comments of my own and thank everyone for the wonderful phone calls, emails, and posts with words of congratulations. It has been a great couple of days getting to know Ezra.
Both Mike and I (especially me) am so thankful that the delivery was fast and safe. All in all I was in labor for about 5 hours -from first contraction at home to the delivery, but really only about an hour of major pain....not too bad! It is now 2 for 2 deliveries where the doctor/midwife does not make it to the room! Both times the boys have come so fast that the midwife comes walking in about 2 minutes later.
I am feeling great. Going a bit stir crazy in this hospital room though!
Ezra is a great little boy. He has been so calm and quiet and has such a sweet disposition. Canaan thinks he is so fun. Canaan keeps asking if he can "pet" him. He also likes to hold him and touch his hands.
Tomorrow we will head home and introduce Ezra to his new life in the Smith household. Mike and I are looking forward to sleeping in our own bed and having a place of our own again without nurses coming in and out all day and night.
Anyhow, that's about it from my end. Thanks again to everyone for the love we've felt from you all.
Megan

19 June 2006

well we made it to our room, which is much nicer than the previous stall in which we were placed. no jacuzzi tub but at least it is more than 8 square feet [9 meters square for those of you who use proper measurements]
well the contractions are coming hard and fast now so this will be my last post for a while, i hope.
hopefully we will post again in the morning with pics of the new dude!

11:10pm
19 june 2006
we have arrived. i am trying to think of how to describe the situation without using profanities. the place is packed so we are in a triage room with another couple; seperated by a curtain. yes, i know it could be worse. we could be in a tent in the desert and i could be the one deliverying the baby. but we do get to listen to the girl on the other side of the curtain puking, the local news [on my top 10 worst things ever]
moving rooms right now woo hoo

19 june 06
8:45pm
the contractions have started and megan just got off the phone with the doctor and he suggest that we be heading to the hospital...!
well away we go, ok not really. my sister is going to come over and stay the night with canaan because my mom is still on the way from south east ky and isn't here yet!
away!

june 18, still no baby. only 2 days until he is due yet no signs of relief for megan. she has been hoping he would come for about 2 weeks now but it doesn't seem that he is in a hurry. he has definitely dropped and grown since megan's belly is noticably more bubble like and lower every day. if now is an indicator of the future we could be in for some sleepless nights. as of late he doesn't do much moving until about 10:30 or 11 at night.. then he starts to play soccer with megan's rib cage. perhaps he will be an athletic little chap. speaking of, canaan has officially gotten into the whole sporting concept. it is now a daily thing to go out and hit wiffle balls off the tee for a while and then on to tennis. he is quite good at just 'bonking it' himself or with me throwing it to him. he has also taken great pride in his gardening. we planted mostly seeds but also a tomato plant and a few pepper plants, that have really taken off. he has been great at pulling weeds and watering and for the most part not smashing it with his trucks. here is the current inventory: quite the sparling pumpkin vines; one nice long row of lettuce; a plethara of carrots, 2 rows of corn [some with possibility some not]; 3 huge zuccini bushes - of which we have already taken a huge zuccini; 1 tomato bush that is easily 5 feet tall; and 2 pepper plants that are showing great promise!

we will keep you posted on baby news.

03 June 2006

well, the countdown is on. its 2 june and megan is about to pop! i, mike, am only giving her until the 10th to have the baby. she may even go before then. it seems that every day for the last week the baby is getting lower, her stomach is getting more round and her back pain / lack of sleep is getting worse.

we finally got out the crib a few days back and decided to get things ready for the new one, only to discover that we have evidently left the whole bottom mechanism somewhere between here and orlando! no spring, no nothing. luckily my sister had somebody's crib in her garage which we pirated for parts.

canaan is growing ever more anxious to see the baby. he also is evidently still carrying his own baby in his belly. i am trying to convince megan that she shouldn't promote this thinking because the poor chap is going to be devastated when her baby comes out and comes home and his doesn't. but megan thinks it is the cutest thing ever so we will see what happens.

canaan and i went camping a few weeks back. we tried to talk megan into joining us but i guess the sleeping on an airmattress and peeing in the grass was too much for her to bare. we did only go camping in the back yard but it was a grand time.

has anyone mentioned that we got a dog!? a scottish deerhound to be exact. megan has been on this get a dog kick for about 8 years now and we finally broke down and aquired ourself a pooch. he is big, lovable, lazy and is addicted to petting. and evidently enjoys being a circus clown. 2 times in one day he ran our the gate and went from house to house in our neighborhood just fast enough for me not to catch him... i finally did get him back about a block away without incedent, unlike megan who let him out the first time only to let him poop in the neighbors perfectly groomed lawn!
